1. In your opinion, what is the number one issue that the Illinois Senate needs to address immediately?
2. My office can often help with constituent issues regarding state agencies or other units of government. Are there any issues with which we could help you?
3. Under Governor JB Pritzker, Illinois government spending has increased by 32 percent, or $13 billion in six years. Governor Pritzker’s nearly $53 billion budget adopted by the Majority Party this year includes nearly $1 billion in tax increases on Illinois families and businesses. Do you support tax increases to continue this budgetary growth?
Yes
No
Undecided/No Opinion
4. Since taking office in 2019, Governor Pritzker’s budgets have increased state spending on non-citizens in Illinois from a few million dollars per year to nearly $1 billion per year today, accounting for nearly 2 percent of Illinois’ $53 billion budget. Do you support the state’s increased spending on non-citizen programs?
Yes
No
Undecided/No Opinion
5. Carbon capture and storage is a way of reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by injecting captured CO2 into the ground. This year, the General Assembly passed legislation establishing state regulations around carbon capture and sequestration projects, including CO2 pipelines. Do you support the construction of these carbon sequestration programs?
Yes
No
Undecided/No Opinion
6. Illinois has continued to see significant outmigration over the past ten years. Please select what you believe to be the top cause of outmigration below.
Property taxes
Overall tax burden / cost of living
Lack of affordable housing
Lack of opportunity
Corruption
Crime
Access to quality education
Other thoughts on outmigration:
7. Illinois is one of 17 states to impose an estate or inheritance tax, in addition to the federal estate tax, which are taxes on a person’s assets after their death. These taxes can make it more difficult to transfer land and businesses and have been cited as a cause of outmigration for the senior population. Do you support eliminating Illinois’ estate tax?
Yes
No
Undecided/No Opinion
8. Despite being ranked as one of the top states for public corruption, Illinois law prohibits the Attorney General from investigating crimes of public corruption, forcing the state to rely entirely on local and federal prosecutors to investigate and prosecute “bad actors.” Do you support legislation to:
Allow the Illinois Attorney General to use a statewide grand jury to investigate and prosecute public corruption cases
Amend Illinois’ RICO law to provide local state’s attorneys the authority, with judicial oversight, to use wiretaps to investigate crimes of public corruption
Both
Other thoughts on the Attorney General prosecuting corruption:
9. In 2021, the Majority Party drew new legislative maps designed to favor their party in elections for the state legislature, the Illinois Supreme Court, the United States Congress, and many local judicial sub circuits. How do you think legislative districts should be created?
Drawn by sitting politicians from the Majority Party (current practice in Illinois)
Drawn by a non-partisan commission established to draw the maps
Other thoughts on redistricting:
10. In your opinion, does Illinois need more restrictions on gun ownership or fewer (please explain)?
11. When a Court issues an order of protection to an individual related to an allegation of domestic violence, should law enforcement be able to search the subject’s residence and seize any firearms from that residence?
Yes
No
Undecided/No Opinion
12. Sen. Curran is focused on passing legislation to help curb the growing epidemic of people fleeing from police officers, often endangering both law enforcement and innocent bystanders. Which, if any, of these policy solutions would you support?
Increasing penalties for suspects fleeing the police
Automatic revocation of drivers’ licenses from suspects who flee police
Automatic forfeiture of the vehicle if you are convicted of fleeing a police officer
Other thoughts on issue of fleeing police:
13. There is a looming shortfall in funding for mass transit in Illinois, partially due to a reduction in federal funding. Metra, Pace and the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) all face significant operational deficits and in addition, the CTA also has a significant amount of pension debt. Which, if any of the following solutions, would you support?
Service cuts to reduce spending
Fare increases across all transit authorities
Sales tax increase to continue to fund mass transit at the same rate
A combination of the above
Other thoughts on transit funding:
14. Which area of crime prevention should the General Assembly prioritize most in the upcoming legislative session to help make our community more safe?
Domestic violence
Carjacking
Retail theft
Gun crime
Fleeing and eluding law enforcement
Other thoughts on crime prevention:
15. Are there any other questions or issues we didn’t ask about that you’d like to share your thoughts on?
